Baseball Falls to CMSV, 4-2

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) baseball team suffered a 4-2 Skyline Conference loss to the College of Mt. St. Vincent on Monday afternoon.

The Golden Eagles slide to 1-2 on the season as the Dolphins improve to 4-1.

SJC struck early when freshman Joe Sanguedolce (2-for-3, RBI) singled to left center bringing in Paul Gugliuzzo (1-for-3, R) who doubled to right to start the game.

A solo home run over the left-field fence off the bat of sophomore Ryan Decoursey (1-for-4, RBI) in the top of the second inning pushed SJC advantage to 2-0.

St. Joseph's starter junior Kevin Czeczotka cruised through the first four innings until CMSV's Sean Kennedy led off the bottom of the fifth with a home run to left cutting the SJC lead in half, 2-1.

The Dolphins evened the score in the bottom of the sixth after an Eric Zimmerman RBI double to left.

Mt. St.  Vincent took the lead, 3-2, in the bottom half of the seventh after an RBI double to the left-center gap plated Jake Blinstrub. An RBI single to right from Ross Bartziokas in the bottom of the eighth provided some breathing room for the Dolphins for Kennedy to come in and retire the Golden Eagles in order to pick up his first save of the season.

Czeczotka allowed two runs on four hits with five strikeouts in 5.1 innings of work before giving way to Michael Manzolillo (0-1) who suffered the loss. The sophomore surrendered two runs on four hits. Kevin Yohe came in and retired the only batter he faced.

CMSV's starter Amir Nitowski went six innings allowing two runs on five hits with three Ks. Joe Decandia picked up the win with 1.2 innings of scoreless.

The Golden Eagles return to Gregg Alfano Field on Saturday, March 27 when they host SUNY Old Westbury. The doubleheader is slated to start at 11:00 am.
