Golf Team Battles Brutal Weekend Weather at Dowling Invitational

Manorville, N.Y. - The men's golf team did their best under challenging conditions this past weekend finishing 11 of 14 teams competing at Dowling College's Peter King Invitational at the Rock Hill Country Club in Manorville.

Their first day score of 330 placed the Golden Eagles ninth after competing on a day of heavy winds and freezing temperatures.  They were among the final groups teeing off on Sunday when the weather conditions were at their worst.  The wind, rain and freezing temps created very difficult playing conditions as several players were unable to maintain a grip of their clubs causing errant shots of which they had no control.  As a result of the weather, the competition was shortened from a 36-hole to 27-hole competition due to the brutal playing conditions.

St. Joseph's head coach George Cangero had the following comments on how the team handled the event, "The team demonstrated tremendous fortitude, perseverance and courage.  They competed to the best of their ability despite the poor conditions and never once complained.  They represented the team, school and themselves with dignity and integrity.  I am so very proud of their performance regardless of where they ultimately finished in the competition."

The team's next tournament will be April 5 and 6 at the Bethpage Red Course at the Farmingdale State College Spring Invitational.
