Indoor Track and Field Opens Season at Bill Ward Invitational

South Huntington, NY| The St. Joseph's College indoor track and field team opened its 2018-19 season at the Bill Ward Invitational hosted by St. John's University on Sunday afternoon.

The women were led by a strong showing from Jennifer Holownia who brought home a top finish with a 5.66-meter long jump. The senior finished fourth in the 60-meter hurdles (10.55) and placed seventh in the 200-meter run (27.50).

Sophomore Meagan Haviland placed third in the 3000-meter race with a time of 11:44.05 as teammates Sandra Vivar Marin (12:11.40) and Caleigh Capek (12:22.14) were right behind in fourth and fifth place, respectively.

Sophomore Cassidy Jacobus placed eighth in the mile with a time of 5:58.93 and ninth in the 800-meter at 2:40.12.

The 4X400 relay team of Holownia, Marlee Lopez, Karli Murphy, and Julia Boris had a sixth-place finish with a time of 4:46.09.

On the men's side sophomore Thomas Newham took home first place in the mile with a time of 4:47.93.

Daniel Antonawich finished second in the 60-meter hurdles behind a time of 9.69. The senior also competed in the 400-meter race and came in 15th with a time of 57.79.

In the 200-meter run, senior Brandon Linbrunner came away with fifth (24.00) with sophomore Brandon Phan finishing in eighth (24.33), Anthony Figorito in 11th (25.15) and Rayneri Ruiz in 19th (25.83).

Sophomore Jeremy Anderson placed third in the 800-meter race with a time of 2:10.82.

On the field, Phan turned in a 5.14m long jump with Ruiz (30'3") and Joseph Spataro (24'2.5") finishing eighth and 13th in the shot put, respectively.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Friday, January 4 when they compete at the Wagner College Invitational in Staten Island, NY.
