Ferchland, Girardi Earn Skyline Co-POTW Nods

New York, NY| The Skyline Conference released its weekly awards Tuesday morning, and amongst the winners were four St. Joseph's College (L.I.) Golden Eagles, including seniors Heather Ferchland (women's lacrosse) and Nick Girardi (baseball) who earned Co-Player of the Week nods for their respective sports. In addition, senior Mallory McClafferty (softball) and sophomore Matt Dioguardio (men's tennis) appeared on Weekly Honor Rolls.

Heather Ferchland (Sr.) – Women's Lacrosse Co-Player of the Week

In a week in which the women's lacrosse team collected two 18-9 victories, Ferchland scored a total of nine goals and collected 10 points, 12 ground balls, 10 draw controls, 19 shots and nine caused turnovers.  After tallying two goals and adding a helper in the victory over Manhattanville on April 6, Ferchland matched a career-best with seven goals in a win over Old Westbury on April 10. Additionally, the Selden, NY native established game-bests in ground balls (6), draw controls (8), caused turnovers (6) and shots (13). Before play Tuesday, Ferchland ranked in the top five in the conference in ground balls/game (3.44), draw controls/game (3.78) and caused turnovers/game (2.67). The midfielder leads the Golden Eagles with 26 goals, 30 points and 34 draw controls and earns her fourth-career Player of the Week nod.

Nick Girardi (Sr.) – Baseball Co-Player of the Week

Girardi recorded seven hits in nine at bats (.778) last weekend as the baseball team split a conference doubleheader with Maritime on Sunday. Additionally, the senior recorded a triple and drove in three runs across the two games. The Syosset, NY native is currently hitting .383 on the year and has collected 11 RBI's. On the mound Girardi has compiled a 2-2 record in six starts and struck out a team-best 37 batters. For Girardi, this is his first POTW selection of the season and the second of his career.  

Mallory McClafferty (Sr.) – Softball Weekly Honor Roll

McClafferty went 8-for-11 (.727) across four games as the softball team posted a 4-0 record. In the first game (W, 7-0) of a doubleheader vs. Old Westbury on April 10, McClafferty struck out six batters in a one-hit effort to claim her fifth victory of the season (5-1). In the second game of the doubleheader (W, 13-2), McClafferty went 3-3 with two home runs, five RBI's and three runs. Additionally, the Bellport, NY native went 3-3 with an RBI and two runs in a 13-8 win over Sarah Lawrence on April 6. Before play on Monday, McClafferty ranked first on the team and fifth in the conference in batting average (.482) and slugging percentage (.804); first on the team and fourth in the conference in on base percentage (.552); first on the team and second in the conference in RBI's (24); first in the conference in opposing batting average (.115) and third in ERA (1.24) and K's (50).

Matt Dioguardio (So.) – Men's Tennis Weekly Honor Roll

A Weekly Honor Roll selection for the first time in his career last week, Dioguardio earned third singles and third doubles victories in the men's tennis team's 5-4 defeat to Sarah Lawrence on Sunday afternoon. After claiming an 8-1 win with doubles partner Phillip Branigan, Dioguardio rolled to a 6-3, 6-3 decision in his singles match. After play on Sunday, Dioguardio boasts a 3-1 record in singles competition on the year and a 2-2 record in doubles play.
