Basile Scores 35 in Men’s Basketball’s OT Win at Connecticut

New London, CT| Junior Frank Basile scored 35 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's basketball team edged Connecticut College, 88-85, in overtime on Sunday afternoon.

Victorious in their second-straight outing, the Golden Eagles improve to 2-2 on the year in their first road contest of 2018-19. The Camels slip to 1-3 with the defeat.

Basile's career-best 35 points came on 14-for-28 shooting from the field and his 10 rebounds matched a game-best.

Senior Mike Harris pitched also established a career personal best with 32 points on 10-for-17 shooting. The guard knocked down five three-pointers and was 7-for-8 from the charity stripe.

Sophomore Anthony Simpsons dished out a game-high nine assists, and junior Brad Weiss pitched in with eight points and five rebounds off the bench.

Despite jumping out to a 15-7 lead seven minutes into the game, the Golden Eagles went cold in first half and trailed 40-24 at the break.

Connecticut went up by as much as 18 points (45-27) in the second, but SJC's massive 29-9 run over the next six minutes saw the guests take a 56-53 lead at the 11:38 mark.

Up 78-76 with 1:06 to play in regulation, the Golden Eagles conceded a layup and settled for overtime. In a back-and-forth extra frame, Harris gave SJC an 86-85 lead with a pair of converted free throws with 25 seconds remaining and sprung St. Joseph's to its second-straight win.

SJC held the narrowest of margins in field-goal percentage, 44.8% to 44.7%, and was the superior side from beyond the arc (42.3%-30.0%).

The Golden Eagles return to action on Tuesday, November 27 when they visit Sarah Lawrence College for a Skyline Conference contest at 6:00 pm.
