Softball Drops Two to Farmingdale at Skyline Championships

Purchase, N.Y. - After overcoming a three-run deficit in the seventh inning of game one, the No. 2 Rams broke the 1-1 tie in the final inning of game two to capture the Skyline Conference Championship over fourth-seeded St. Joseph's-L.I. Farmingdale State earned the conference's automatic bid to the 2013 NCAA Division III Softball Tournament as a results of the victories.

In game one, the Rams (24-15) trailed 4-1 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning. After back-to-back hits to start the inning, freshman pinch hitter Meghan Acton hit an RBI single to cut the deficit to 4-2. Sophomore right fielder Sam Johrden pulled Farmingdale State within one, 4-3, on an RBI bunt single. Sophomore center fielder Michelle Mongiello hit a two out walk-off two-RBI single to give the Rams a 5-4 win in the first game.

Sophomore pitcher Taylor Webb earned the victory after throwing two scoreless innings in relief.

Trailing 1-0 in the third inning of game two, Mongiello tied the game with an RBI double which scored junior shortstop Hillary Genova.

Freshman catcher Meagan Anderson hit a solo home run in the top of the seventh to give the Rams a 2-1 lead. Webb pitched a scoreless bottom half of the inning, leading Farmingdale State to the Skyline Conference title.

Webb, who was named the Tournament's Most Valuable Player, earned her second victory of the afternoon after allowing one run on five hits in seven innings of work.

With today's victory, the Rams have now won three straight Skyline Conference Championships.

Julia De Carmine collected three hits - including two doubles - and an RBI on the afternoon for St. Joseph's-L.I., (23-19), who advanced to the Skyline Championship for the first time since 2008.
