Stockton Blanks Women's Soccer 3-0 in Non-Conference Affair

Patchogue, N.Y. — The Lady Golden Eagles' (0-3-1) nest was robbed by the Richard Stockton Ospreys (2-4) last night, as SJC's 3-0 loss to the visiting team leaves them still working for their first win of the season.

The Eagles were mainly on the defensive end of the field for much of the first half, but goalkeeper Katie McGarrel (Selden, N.Y./ Newfield) kept her team in the game grabbing seven saves within the first 20 minutes of play. At 22:41, the Ospreys scored their first tally of the night off of a cross into the box. Before the end of the first half, McGarrel logged two more saves and Jennifer Martino (East Patchogue, N.Y./ Bellport) had SJC's first shot on goal of the night, but the attempt was unsuccessful.

The second half saw more defensive action for the Golden Eagles as McGarrel made three saves before Richard Stockton's second goal of the night at 56:34. Having effectively knocked much of the wind out of the Eagles' wings, the Ospreys went on to score their third and final tally of the night only minutes later at 61:43.

By the final buzzer, Martino logged two shots on goal in addition to Lauren Heschl's (Medford, N.Y./ St. John the Baptist) attempt on goal. While SJC's offensive efforts were relatively unsuccessful, their defensive feats were impressive, most notably with keeper McGarrel's 15 saves out of 18 shots on goal.

The Golden Eagles will take the Danzi Stadium field again on Saturday for a noon match against Neumann University.
