Offensive Outburst Leads Women's Soccer to 8-0 Win Over Sarah Lawrence

Yonkers, N.Y. – In a maiden meeting of newly minted Skyline Conference foes, the St. Joseph's Golden Eagles (5-9-2, 2-4 Skyline) welcomed the Sarah Lawrence Gryphons (3-9, 0-5 Skyline) with an eight goal outburst and a shutout.  The 8-0 score was SJC's largest margin of victory of the season and the most goals they have scored since September 10, 2013.

The goals came fast and furious for the Lady Eagles as they scored four times within the first 23 minutes of the game.  Leading off was a Kristin Carroll tally at 10:09 from a Jennifer Martino cross.  That was followed by an unassisted Kathryn Condron score at 13:38.

At 19:45 Katelyn Jones got into the act unassisted down the middle of the field. Just three minutes later, at 22:45, Martino got her own score via a Jones pass from the outside.

In the second half it was more of the same as Kaleigh Gorman stole the ball from a Sarah Lawrence player and buried a shot to the top right corner of the net.

Then SJC's Megan Leun joined the scoring brigade not once, not twice, but three times in the last ten minutes of the game for a hat trick.  The first goal was stolen from a defender, the second came from a Cassandra Costarelli pass through the defense and the third was off an error by the Sarah Lawrence keeper.

On the day, St. Joseph's blanked the Gryphons in shots 28-0 leaving little work to be done by keeper's Hannah Steffens and Katie McGarrell who split the shutout.

The Golden Eagles return to their home turf this Tuesday for a non-conference game with New York University at 7:00 p.m. at Danzi Stadium.
