Panthers Pounce on Eagles in Conference Swim Meet

Purchase, N.Y. — The Golden Eagles (4-3, SKY 3-2) put up a good fight against the Purchase Panthers (5-3, SKY 4-1) on Friday, but ultimately fell to their conference opponents, 115-86.

SJC's "A" team — Jenna Birkmire (Shoreham, N.Y./ Shoreham-Wading River), Melissa Nocco (Holbrook, N.Y./ Sachem North), Kim Mazza (Bohemia, N.Y./ Connetquot), and Gabrielle Zollo (West Islip, N.Y./ West Islip) — secured first place finishes in both the 1000 Yard Freestyle and the 200 Yard Freestyle with times of 2:06.79 and 1:52.63, respectively.

Individually, Zollo placed first in the 100 Yard Butterfly (1:08.53) and Jenna Birkmire earned first place in the 100 Yard Backstroke (1:04.17). Marissa Palmeri (East Islip, N.Y./ East Islip) placed first in the 1000 Yard Freestyle (13:41.43) and second in the 500 Yard Freestyle (2:15.43). Mazza came in second place in the 200 Yard Freestyle and Nocco came in second in the 100 Yard Freestyle (1:02.56).

The Golden Eagles will host the St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn Bears on December 20 for a 1 p.m. meet.
