Murasso’s Early Winner Pushes Men’s Soccer Past Maritime

Patchogue, NY| Freshman Adam Murasso's 14th-minute tally proved to be the game-winner in the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's soccer team's 1-0 Skyline Conference victory over SUNY Maritime at home on Saturday afternoon.

With the win, the Golden Eagles improve to 3-5 on the year and 1-1 in Skyline play as the Privateers slip to 7-3 (1-1 Skyline).

Murasso's goal came against the run of play when he banged home senior Justin Busto's attempt from the left side. The Maritime keeper made the initial stop on Busto but Murasso, at the far post, finessed the ball over the goal line for his first-ever collegiate tally.

SJC took its 1-0 advantage into the second half and was met by a Maritime side that generated a plethora of scoring opportunities, but sophomore keeper Tyler Flaherty and the St. Joseph's backline stood tall and maintained the hosts' slim advantage until the final whistle.

Though credited with only four saves on the afternoon, Flaherty's stops were of the clutch and spectacular variety. Maritime's Michael Rodriguez made three saves.

The Privateers held a slim edge in total shots (12-11) but dominated in the corner kick department, having generated 13 to SJC's zero.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Wednesday, September 26 when they host the College of Mount St. Vincent for a Skyline Conference contest at 7:00 pm.
