Men’s Tennis Drops Skyline Contest to Purchase

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's tennis team dropped a 9-0 decision to SUNY Purchase in a Skyline Conference contest at the SJC Outdoor Field Complex on Thursday evening.

The loss sends the Golden Eagles to 0-3 (0-2 Skyline) on the year as the Panthers improve to 2-4 overall and 2-1 in conference play.

In the doubles competition, the second pairing of freshman Ryan Freeley and junior Kyle Conway fared best in an 8-5 defeat.

Freeley endured a marathon third-singles match vs. Purchase's Austin Schmitt. After dropping the first set 8-6, Freeley rebounded in the second with a 6-3 victory but was edged 14-12 in a match-deciding tie-breaker.

Sophomore Damian Duda also went the distance but suffered a 10-4 defeat in a tie-breaker in his match at fifth singles.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Saturday, April 9 when they head up to Newburgh, NY to face Mount St. Mary College in a Skyline Conference tilt at 1:00 pm.
