Men’s and Women’s Tennis Split with Staten Island

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's tennis team was defeated 9-0 by the College of Staten Island in a non-conference contest at the SJC Outdoor Field Complex on Friday evening. Additionally, the women's tennis team picked up a 8-1 win over CSI's women's team.

The loss for the men sends them to 1-2 overall on the year as the Skyline Conference champion women improve to 10-3.

CSI 9, SJC Men 0

The Dolphins dropped just four games in the doubles matches, all of which were won by SJC's first doubles team of sophomore Ryan Freeley and senior Kyle Conway (8-4).

Freshman Nick Bongiorno salvaged four games in his second singles match (8-4), but sophomore Dylan Trude fared best in his sixth singles match where he was edged 8-2 in a tiebreaker after playing to a 7-7 scoreline.

SJC Women 8, CSI 1

SJC dominated the doubles matches, sweeping CSI 8-0, 8-0 and 8-3 at first, second and third doubles, respectively.

Junior Amanda Post, who picked up an 8-0 win at second doubles, earned a slim 8-7 win at first singles, while Skyline Playoff MVP Taylor Hanscom posted an 8-0 win at third singles.

Senior Victoria Panicola went for an 8-1 win at second singles, and junior Nora Burnett posted a shutout (8-0) in her fourth singles contest.

The men's tennis team returns to action on Sunday, March 31 when it hosts Hunter at 12:00 pm.  The women play again on Saturday, April 13 in a non-conference showdown with Brooklyn at 12:00 pm.
