Solid Outing for Team on Day 2 of Golden Eagle Invitational

Patchogue, N.Y. – The men's and women's outdoor track & field teams hosted its two-day inaugural Golden Eagle Invitational this past weekend and had several impressive performances including six first place finishes and eight school records taken down.

WOMEN

Leading the way for the women was senior Maureen Quinn (Rocky Point, N.Y./Rocky Point) who competed in the 800m, crossing the finish line at 2:26.78 and taking first place overall.

Junior Jessica Josema (Medford, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford) took first in the 400m with a time of 1:02.26.

Junior Caitlyn Ryan (Farmingville, N.Y./Sachem East) finished first in the 5000m, shattering the school record with a time of 18:57.60.

Freshman Brittany Guttieri (Oakdale, N.Y./Connetquot) finished second in the 1500m with a time of 5:10.19.

Freshman hurdler Samantha Baculy (Farmingville, N.Y./Connetquot) broke the 100 high hurdles school record with a time of 17.03.

Freshman hurdler Samantha Maurice (Holtsville, N.Y/Sachem East) took fourth overall in the 400m hurdles, setting the school record with a time of 1:19.92.

Senior transfer Nicole Battaglia (St. James, N.Y./East Meadow) won her section in the 100m with a time of 13.61, which was good for sixth.

MEN

The men's top performer was freshman Mario Mayen (Center Moriches, N.Y./Center Moriches) who had an impressive day taking first in the 400m and 400 hurdles, crossing the finish line at 51.32 and 56.46, respectively. Mayen has set the school record in the 400 hurdles.

Junior Brian Wersan (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem North) had an impressive finish in the 1500m as he took first with a time of 4:19.99.

Freshman James D'Onofrio (West Babylon, N.Y./West Babylon) took fourth in both the 100m and 200m, crossing the finish line in school record times of 11.47 and 23.17, respectively.

Senior Michael Lombardi (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Connetquot) competed in the 5000m and finished fourth with a time of 15:52.80.

Freshman hurdler Ian Sullivan (Center Moriches, N.Y./Center Moriches) took fifth in the 110 high hurdles with a school record of 16.61.

The Golden Eagles will take the next week off and return to action on Saturday, April 6 at the Ramapo Roadrunner Invitational in Mahwah, N.J. Competition is slated to begin at 9:00 am.
