Results:

The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) men's lacrosse team claimed their first win of the season with a 13-12 Skyline Conference victory over the College of Mt. St. Vincent on Wednesday afternoon.

Top Performances
  • Junior Michael Carere paced the Golden Eagles with a game-best eight points on six goals and two assists. The midfielder was also 15-for-16 in faceoffs with 15 ground balls 

  • Senior Tim Bruno tallied a hat trick, adding two assists for five points with nine ground balls

  • Mike Amato added a pair of goals with an assist and a ground ball

  • Connor Owenburg and Kyle Strayer both found the back of the net to round out the SJLI scoring 

  • Johnny Argueta caused three turnovers and scooped up a pair of ground balls 

  • St. Joseph's goalie Connor Van Dusen finished the day with a season-high 23 saves 

How it Happened
  • Carere opened the scoring early with a goal 45 seconds into the game. After a CMSV goal tied it up, Bruno put the visitors back on top 2-1 heading into the second quarter

  • Three straight goals from the Dolphins opened the second frame, but Carare bookended a 6-0 run by the Golden Eagles for an 8-4 lead at the half 

  • The teams went goal for goal with both sides finding the back of the net four times in the third saw St. Joseph's leading 12-8 going into the final quarter

  • The Dolphins would strike first in the fourth quarter and go on to add three more unanswered goals to knot the score at 12 with 3:00 on the clock

  • A crucial face-off win from Carare gave the Golden Eagles possession which led to Bruno's eventual game-winner with just 1:35 remaining

  • CMSV had a scoring opportunity with just over a minute remaining when Jacob Cochran caused a turnover and took the ball down the field, but his shot was high and the Golden Eagles held on for the 13-12 win

  • As a team, St. Joseph's was 23-for-29 in faceoffs 

  • The Dolphins outshot the Golden Eagles 57-36 and held a 43-35 ground ball advantage
