Results:

The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) men's lacrosse edged by New Paltz 17-5, on Wednesday afternoon. 

Top performers:
  • Sophomore Nik Allen led the Golden Eagles with three goals and one assist while collecting one groundball

  • Junior Michael Carere was a steady 9-14 on faceoffs, to go along with one goal and five groundballs 

  • Senior Kyle Strayer recorded one goal and one assist for SJLI

  • Aiden Jones led the Hawks with a game-high six goals, one assist, two groundballs and two caused turnovers

  • New Paltz's Thomas Armetta added five goals, two assists three groundballs and two caused turnovers

How it happened:
  • The first quarter saw New Paltz pulling ahead to an early lead compiling eight goals in the opening frame as Allen was able to get the lone goal on the board for the Golden Eagles 

  • In the second quarter, the Hawks would keep a steady pace as they scored three unanswered goals with Jones scoring two out of the three goals, giving New Paltz the lead, 12-1 at halftime 

  • At the beginning of the second half, Armetta would net his fifth goal of the game before Allen scored another two goals followed by a goal from Carere as SJLI outscored the Hawks 3-1 in the quarter 

  • The fourth quarter would see New Paltz compile five goals compared to St. Joseph's one securing the victory for the Hawks

Notes:
  • SJLI went on to collect 17 groundballs while New Paltz scooped up 52 groundballs 

  • The Golden Eagles accumulated 21 shots throughout the game as the Hawks amassed 66 

  • St. Joseph's totaled 20 saves on the game compared to New Paltz's five saves

  • The Golden Eagles went 17-28 on clears while New Paltz was a steady 20-21 on clears
