Men's Lacrosse Drops Second Straight Conference Loss on Saturday

Results:

The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) men's falls to Purchase in their second straight Skyline conference loss on Saturday afternoon.

Top performers:
  • Junior Michael Carere led the Golden Eagles with four goals while going 6-10 on faceoffs and collecting seven ground balls 

  • Senior Tim Bruno was a perfect 7-7 on faceoffs, scooping up six ground balls and scoring one goal 

  • Senior Kyle Strayer matched a team-high two assists, to go along with one goal scored and three groundballs 

  • Sophomore Nik Allen scored one goal and tallied five ground balls 

  • Joe Ely led the Panthers with three goals and added two groundballs 

  • Shakim Carr totaled two goals and one assist for Purchase while grabbing one groundball

How it happened:
  • The Golden Eagles opened the game with Bruno finding the back of the nets four minutes into action as St. Joseph's would outscore the Panthers 2-1 in the opening quarter

  • Two quick goals from Carere in the first five minutes of the second help SJLI build their lead 4-1 with 10 minutes to go in the first half

  • A pair of Purchase goals in the back half of the second quarter would cut the lead to just one prior to Strayer scoring with 41 seconds left in the half 

  • As St. Joseph's started the second half with a two-goal lead, SJLI and Purchase would each find the back of the net once giving the Golden Eagles the 6-4 lead heading into the final quarter

  • In the fourth quarter, the Panthers opened up the scoring with a goal early from Andrew Agosto, shortly after a long-range goal from Allen put St. Joseph's up by two

  • The Panthers would go on to outscore the Golden Eagles 3-0 for the rest of the game with Ely and Zach Collins scoring back-to-back goals with one-minute remaining allowing Purchase to pull ahead late and secure the victory 

Notes:
  • Connor Van Dusen tallied nine goals on seventeen shots faced 

  • SJLI totaled 35 ground balls compared to Purchase collecting 32  

  • The Golden Eagles were 13-17 on faceoffs 

  • The Panthers were a steady 26-29 on clears while St. Joseph's was 16-28
