Men's Lacrosse Drops Fifth Conference Loss

Results:

The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) men's lacrosse team falls to Manhattanville College on Wednesday evening.

Top performers:
  • Junior Michael Carere was a steady 11-16 on faceoffs for the Golden Eagles while adding two goals and nine ground balls 

  • Senior Tim Bruno went 7-13 on faceoffs while recording one goal, two assists, and seven ground balls 

  • Senior Kyle Strayer totaled two goals, two assists, nine ground balls and one caused turnovers

  • Sophomore Mike Amato tallied two assists while collecting three ground balls 

  • Junior Connor Van Dusen secured 23 saves and scooped up one ground ball 

  • Nick Cornelia of the Valiants had a game-high five goals and three assists to go along with two ground balls and one caused turnover

  • Drew Palladino of Manhattanville College added three goals and three ground balls  

How it happened:
  • The Golden Eagles opened the game with two quick goals on behalf of Strayer and Carere until the Valiants answered with a goal from Dash Munson with SJLI taking the first quarter 2-1

  • In the second quarter Manhattanville put up the first two scoring chances with Sean Larkin scoring a man-up goal and Nick Cornelia scoring at the 9:48 mark, St. Joseph's responded with two goals of their own retaking the lead 4-3

  • The remainder of the second quarter saw Manhattanville outscore SJLI 4-2 in the quarter as they took a 7-6 lead heading into the second half

  • While the game remained close the Valints began to pull away in the third quarter scoring six unanswered goals with Cornelia scoring two in the final two minutes

  • The final frame saw Manhattanville build on their lead as they again scored six unanswered goals, as they went on a 12-0 run in the second half before Amato scored with 39 seconds remaining in the game 

Notes:
  • St. Joseph's collected a total of 45 ground balls with Manhattanville scooping up 55

  • Manhattanville was a near-perfect 28-29 on clears compared to SJLI's 17-29 on clears

  • The Golden Eagles were successful on 18-29 faceoffs
