Men's Lacrosse Falls to Maritime for First Skyline Conference Loss of Season

Maritime, 8-5, 3-0 Skyline

Results:

The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) men's drops the first Skyline Conference loss of the season to Maritime, 16-6 on Tuesday evening. 

Top performers:
  • Junior Michael Carere led the Golden Eagles with five goals, one assist, and a team-high five groundballs 

  • Sophomore Nik Allen recorded one goal while collecting four ground balls 

  • Senior Tim Bruno and sophomore Mike Amato each added two assists for St. Joseph's with Bruno collecting three ground balls and Amato scooping up two

  • Parker Reily of the Privateers had a team-high four goals, to go along with one assist and three ground balls 

  • Joseph Bruno was a steady 20-25 on faceoffs, scooping up a game-high 15 ground balls and scoring one goal

  • Charles Longo also provided three goals and one ground ball for Maritime College 

How it happened:
  • The first quarter saw the Privateers open the game by scoring the first three goals of the game, and shutting out St. Joseph's in the opening frame 

  • SJLI opened the second quarter getting in the scoring column as Allen scored on a man-up opportunity cutting the lead to just two

  • Maritime's offense would respond as they would outscore the Golden Eagles 8-1 for the rest of the quarter taking a commanding 11-2 lead into the half

  • As the second half got underway Martitime wasted no time as they scored the first two goals of the half before Carere would find the back of the net again for SJLI

  • Maritime entered the final quarter with a 14-3 lead as the Golden Eagles would outscore the Privateers 3-2 in the final frame with Carere scoring all three goals for St. Joseph's but it wasn't enough as Maritime secured the victory

Notes:
  • SJLI collected a total of 23 ground balls as Maritime scooped up 46 groundballs 

  • The Privateers held the advantage winning 20-25 faceoffs

  • Maritime outshot st. Joseph's 38-25

  • The Golden Eagles went 13-22 on clears compared to the Privateers 16-17 on clears
