Basketball's Iavarone and McCarthy Earn Skyline Weekly Honors for 1/12/15

New York, N.Y. – St. Joseph's student-athletes Andrea Iavarone and Sean McCarthy each earned Skyline Conference Weekly awards as announced by the Conference this afternoon for the period ending January 11.  Iavarone, a freshman forward, won Skyline Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week, while McCarthy, a senior forward,  split the Skyline Men's Basketball Player of the Week award with Mark Gjonlekaj of Old Westbury.

Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week
Andrea Iavarone – St. Joseph's-L.I.
Freshman, Forward, Miller Place, NY/Miller Place HS

Iavarone averaged 8.0 points and 7.3 rebounds in a 2-1 week for the Golden Eagles…compiled 13 points, 12 rebounds and a pair of blocked shots on Jan. 11 as St. Joseph's-L.I. earned a 64-57 win at Mount Saint Mary…grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds in the Golden Eagles' 59-48 victory over Purchase on Jan. 6…shot 10-for-11 from the foul line on the week with six steals…tabbed the Skyline Rookie of the Week for the second time.

Men's Basketball Co-Player of the Week
Sean McCarthy – St. Joseph's-L.I.
Senior, Forward, Kings Park, NY/Kings Park HS

McCarthy scored 23 points and grabbed nine boards on Jan. 7 as St. Joseph's-L.I. earned a 77-66 win over Purchase in its lone contest of the week…shot 8-of-11 from the field, including 5-for-7 from three-point range…named the Skyline Player of the Week for the third time this season.
