Golf Pounces to First Place at Old Westbury Invitational

Bay Shore, N. Y. - The Golden Eagles men's golf team picked up their first tournament win of the year at the SUNY Old Westbury Spring Invitational, which was held at the Southward Ho Country Club. The team captured its victory with a team score of 313, despite blustery conditions.

Senior Kenneth Ortiz (Centereach, N.Y./ Centereach) earned the first medalist award of his collegiate career by posting the low round of the tournament with a score of 73, and also his personal best by one stroke.

Junior Zac Campanelli (Bayport, N.Y./Bayport-Blue Point) took second place with a score of 76, to further cement SJC's terrific day.

Junior Robbert Bray (Shoreham, N.Y./ Shoreham-Wading River) posted a neat 81, while senior captain Sean Sanders (Shoreham, N.Y./ Shoreham-Wading River) followed right behind with a score of 84.

SUNY Albany transfer Rich Kelly (Coram, N.Y./ Newfield) shot a solid 83, which was his best score in his first three competitive rounds.

The team has just two more big tournaments remaining on the schedule, starting with the Dr. Tim Brown Invitational on April 17-19 at the Ballston Spa Country Club in upstate New York.  Some top tri-state area teams will be competing, which will make it even more of a challenge for the team.
