Men’s Soccer Earns OT Win on Senior Day

Patchogue, NY| Senior Korey Robinson netted his first-career goal off a penalty in overtime as the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's soccer team earned a 1-0 non-conference victory over John Jay College at Danzi Stadium on Senior Day Friday evening.

With the win, the Golden Eagles improve to 7-10-1 while the Bloodhounds fall to 6-11-0.

Despite carrying the play for the majority of the first half, the Golden Eagles allowed as many shots as they generated (5-5), but won three corners to John Jay's zero.

Senior midfielder Andres Zuluaga had an opportunity to put the hosts in front in the 15th minute, but saw his header attempt blocked by a sliding defender.

After the restart, sophomore Justin Busto nearly slotted home a go-ahead goal when his 57th minute attempt from the left side struck the right post. John Jay's Alexis Bustillo struck the crossbar in the 63rd minute, which created a wide open opportunity for Justin Osorio to finish easy, but the midfielder mistimed his header and struck the ball wide.

St. Joseph's would create a flurry of opportunities over a three minute span later in the half when Chance Casey struck iron in the 76th minute, Carlos Diaz saw a free kick attempt from just outside the box turned away in the 77th minute and Cody Kull's header off a corner was parried by a defender in the 78th minute.

With no winner in sight the two sides headed to overtime, but in storybook fashion, SJC senior  Robinson converted a penalty midway through the first overtime to lift the Golden Eagles to victory.

In a match that saw St. Joseph's outshoot its opponent 15-11, SJC keeper Avery Gomez made a total of four saves. John Jay keeper Sehad Mujovic also made four saves.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Sunday, October 25 when they face Yeshiva University in a crucial Skyline Conference showdown at Riverside-South County Park in North Arlington, NJ. The full postgame wrap will be available here at sjcgoldeneagles.com.
