Men’s Tennis Falls to Rutgers-Newark on the Road

Newark, NJ| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's tennis team suffered a 6-3 defeat at the hands of Rutgers-Newark in Newark, NJ on Thursday afternoon. With the defeat, the Golden Eagles fall to 0-3 (0-Skyline) on the year while the Scarlet Knights improve to 3-1.

SJC came up empty in the doubles matches, with the first doubles tandem of Chris Corrao and Peter Rasmussen suffering a 8-4 defeat, and the second (Brian Merle, Matt Dioguardo) and third (Kelley McGrath, Phillip Branigan) doubles groups dropping their matches 8-3.

After McGrath and Branigan took loses in their fifth and sixth singles matches, Rutgers earned the victory, but the Golden Eagles would take three of the four remaining singles. Rasmussen (6-4, 6-4), Corrao (7-5, 6-1) and Dioguardo (1-6, 6-3, 6-4) all earned wins in first, second and third singles, respectively.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Saturday, April 2 when they head up to Sage for a Skyline Conference showdown at 12:00 PM.
