Men's Volleyball Splits Non-Conference Matches at Arcadia

Glenside, PA| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's volleyball team was handed a pair of non-conference losses at the hands of Hunter College (3-0) and Emmanuel College (3-1) in a tri-match hosted on the campus of Arcadia University on Saturday afternoon.

With the losses the Golden Eagles slide to 6-5 on the year as the Golden Flyers improved to 11-6 and the Bulldogs to 5-5.

Nazareth 3, SJC 1

After dropping the first set 26-24, the Golden Eagles came back to win the second set 25-23 before dropping the third set 25-13.

In the four, SJC jumped out to a 10-4 lead and held as a seven-point lead over the Golden Flyers (17-10). Nazareth came back to jump ahead of the Golden Eagles 21-20 and the sides traded points playing to a 25-25 score line. The Golden Flyers took the 26-25 lead and an attack error by SJC would hand them the 3-1 match victory.

Paul Curaro led the game with 20 kills, and Matthew Amberge contributed seven kills of his own. Tyler Jones led the game in assists (39) and Michael Barfield led the game in digs (18).

SJC 3, Brooklyn 0

Tied 7-7 in the first set, the Golden Eagles were able to jump ahead of the Bulldogs 16-12 and was able to hold of Brooklyn's comeback attempt to win the opening frame 25-21, before securing the 25-21 victory in the second set. Looking for the sweep, SJC went up 12-6 to take the early advantage and never looked back, SJC rallied off five points to seal the 25-16 set and 3-0 match victories.

Leading all players in kills was Biggers, who collected 14 kills in the match. Curaro contributed to 16 kills, to the Golden Eagles kill total of 49.

Jones dished out a game-best 43 assists, and Danny McNamara collected a game-high 11 digs.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Friday, February 24 when they are set to take on SUNY Poly at 5:00 PM. Live stats for the matches will be available here.
