Women’s Lax Drops Skyline Contest to Farmingdale

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's lacrosse team was defeated, 9-6, by Skyline Conference rival Farmingdale State at home on Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Eagles, who now sit at 1-1 overall on the year, held a 5-3 lead 6:25 into the second half but conceded six goals in the final 22:23 of the contest. The Rams move to 3-0 with the victory.

Leading the way for SJC was senior Tori Staker, who posted game-high totals in goals (4), points (5), draw controls (4), and caused turnovers (3). 

Sophomore Melissa Newman and freshman Alexa Cordingly also pitched in with goals, while sophomore Sydney Furno was credited with five ground balls and two caused turnovers.

Keeper Jillian Hummel made 10 saves and scooped up a game-high six ground balls. 

Newman and Staker (2) tallied in the first half, ensuring the hosts were tied at three heading into the break. Staker scored two goals in the space of five minutes early in the second to give SJC a 5-3 lead, but Farmingdale responded with five-straight goals from 22:23 to 5:22 (8-5).

Cordingly collected a consolation goal with 2:48 (8-6) to play before Farmingdale's Courtney Gendels wrapped the scoring inside the final two minutes (9-6).

The Rams held a 27-18 advantage in shots but SJC scooped up more ground balls (20-19) and was credited with 19 clears to Farmingdale's 16.
