The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) women's lacrosse secured a first-round playoff victory over Manhattanville College 17-12 on Tuesday evening.

The game opened up with the Golden Eagles wasting no time as Newman found the back of the net early before Brooke Zecchini scored giving SJLI the 2-0 lead early

The Valiants would respond with a goal of their own from Carr until Spina took advantage of a free position attempt, as the first quarter came to a close with SJLI ahead 3-1

A closely contested second quarter saw both teams trading goals until the Golden Eagles pulled ahead by three late with Lange scoring two goals within a minute of one another until two goals in the final minute of the half for Manhattanville cut the lead 7-6

Manhattanville opened up the second half in a flow as they scored the first four goals in the first seven minutes of action pulling ahead 10-7

St. Joseph's responded with a run of their own as they would outscore the opposition 5-1 for the remaining seven minutes in the third, taking back the 12-11 lead entering the final frame

Carr found the back of the net 45 seconds into the final quarter tying the game up at 12 apiece
