The St. Joseph's University, New York (L.I.) women's tennis team lost their 2023 season-opening match, 5-4, to Baruch College on Thursday evening.

St. Joseph's 0-1, Baruch, 2-0

In her first match as a Golden Eagle, freshman Allison Goodyear won 8-4 at fourth singles
Seniors Haley Celona and Angela Avecillas Martinez posted 8-0 win in fifth and sixth singles, respectively

SJLI trailed 2-1 after doubles play with Rose Puopoli and Carolynn Lynch registering the hosts' only win, 8-2
St. Joseph's managed three singles wins--via Goodyear, Celona and Avecillas Martinez, but it wasn't enough as the Bearcats earned a narrow 5-4 match victory

The Golden Eagles return to action on Saturday, September 9, when they host Hunter College in a non-conference match. Match is set to start at 12:00 PM.
