Women’s Volleyball Sweeps Saturday Tri-Match

Bronxville, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's volleyball team topped both SUNY Old Westbury and Sarah Lawrence 3-0 in a Skyline Conference tri-match played on the campus of Sarah Lawrence on Saturday afternoon. With the wins, the Golden Eagles improve to 12-12 overall on the season and 5-1 in conference play.

In the match against Old Westbury, the Panthers managed to score only 21 points across three sets. After a close first half of the opening set, which saw the score favor the Golden Eagles 11-9, St. Joseph's put together a 14-0 run to end the frame. Junior Erin Kelly, who served all 14 points, recorded seven service aces during the run.

The Golden Eagles would score the first seven points of the second half to extend their multi-set run to 21 straight points. After cruising to a 25-8 second-set win, St. Joseph's compiled a 21-2 run in the third to finish off the Panthers with a 25-4 set and 3-0 match victory.

Senior Heather Ferchland and junior Courtney Wickline had game-highs in kills (12) and assists (21) on the afternoon, while freshman Jenna Beekman had a game-best seven dogs. Kelly's eight services aces were a career-high.

Continuing their strong play, the Golden Eagles jumped out to a 11-3 lead against Sarah Lawrence in match two. With the score 16-8, Wickline served up three-straight services aces and powered St. Joseph's to a 25-10 first-set win.

Up 9-7 in the second set, the Golden Eagles rallied with a 16-1 run to take the frame and pull ahead 2-0 in the match. Over the course of the run, Ferchland registered four service aces and Wickline three.

Sophomore Keilly Estacuy served the match's last four points and Junior Courtney Bocchieri's kill, assisted by Wickline, would finish off the Gryphons and give the Golden Eagles a 25-12 third-set and 3-0 match win.

Bocchieri led all players with 10 kills in the match, and Wickline again had a game-high with 23 assists. The Medford, NY native also served up a career-best nine aces.



The Golden Eagles return to action on Tuesday, October 20 when they host Hunter College. The match is scheduled to begin at 7:00 PM inside the Danzi Center. Live stats will be available here.
