Women’s Volleyball Goes 2-0 in Skyline Tri-Match

Purchase, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's volleyball team defeated both Purchase College and St. Joseph's-Brooklyn 3-0 in a Skyline Conference tri-match played in Purchase, NY on Saturday afternoon. With the wins, the Golden Eagles improve to 15-13 (7-1 Skyline) and move to first place in the conference standings.

St. Joseph's breezed past Purchase in the first two sets of their match, earning a 25-7 victories in both frames. The third set was tighter, with the Panthers cutting the deficit to just three points (11-8), but the Golden Eagles rallied for four-straight points to distance themselves from their opponents before eventually winning the set 25-16 to earn a 3-0 match victory.

Sophomore Claire Urizzo had a game-high eight kills in the match, while junior Courtney Wickline collected a game-best 30 assists. Juniors Erin Kelly and Courtney Bocchieri served up four aces apiece.

The Golden Eagles eased through their second match with St. Joseph's-Brooklyn much like they did in their first match, claiming 25-10 wins in the first and second sets. In the second frame, senior Heather Ferchland recorded three kills during St. Joseph's 4-0 run to end the set.

The Bears took the lead early in the third set (9-4), but an 8-0 run by the Golden Eagles gave them a 12-9 lead. Up 18-12, SJC allowed the Bears to rally for four-straight points, but cut the run short and claimed the set 25-19 to earn the sweep.

Ferchland's 14 kills were a game-high, as were Wickline's 33 assists and 18 digs. Urizzo served up four aces in the win.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Thursday, October 29 when they host Kean University on Senior Night. The match is scheduled to begin at 7:00 PM, but join us beforehand as we celebrate the careers of seniors.
