Women’s Volleyball Drops Two at Roadrunner Invitational

Mahwah, NJ| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's volleyball team was handed a pair of losses on day one of Ramapo College's Roadrunner Invitational on Friday by non-conference rivals FDU-Florham (3-0) and University of Scranton (3-0).

With the defeats, the Golden Eagles slip to 1-4 on the year as FDU-Florham improves to 4-2 and Scranton to 12-0.

FDU-Florham 3, SJC 0

After dropping the first and second sets (25-14, 25-19), the Golden Eagles and the Devils were tied 8-8 in the third set, but a 4-0 run by FDU-Florham saw the Devils pull ahead 13-9. SJC was able to close its deficit within three (16-13) but it was FDU-Florham that won the race to 25 and completed the three-set sweep.

Morgan Tiska led the Golden Eagles with a team-best six kills. Setter Jessica Monteserrato dished out 18 assists, and Danielle Senecal held a game-high 20 digs.

Scranton 3, SJC 0

Down 9-7 in the first set SJC fell victim to a crippling 10-1 run that allowed the Scranton to march to a 25-9 opening-set win. The Golden Eagles bounced back in the second set holding the Royals to a 16-16 tie. Trailing by two (24-22) late in the second set, Scranton was able to tally the final point to bring down the Golden Eagles 25-22. In the third set, SJC would come as close as 16-16 but Scranton was able to finish off strong to complete the sweep with a 25-19 win.

Katlin Williams and Claire Urizzo both collected a team-high seven kills. Monteserrato collected a team-best 22 assists and Senecal collected 25 digs in the contest.

The Golden Eagles return to action tomorrow, Saturday, September 15 when they continue play in the Ramapo College Tournament. They'll face the hosts in a 10:00 AM match and wrap up play with a 12:00 PM contest vs.Potsdam. Live video and stats available here.
