Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's volleyball team earned its first Skyline Conference victory of the season in a 3-0 sweep of St. Joseph's College (Brkln) inside the Danzi Center on Thursday evening.

With the win the Golden Eagles improve to 3-9 on the year and 1-1 in Skyline action as the Bears slip to 2-3 (0-1 Skyline).

A 5-0 run at the end of the first set saw the hosts onto a 25-12 victory in the match's opening frame, and they'd maintain that momentum early in the second, building an 8-3 advantage.

The Golden Eagles would later pull ahead 24-16, but a 6-0 run by the Bears brought the game back to within two (24-22). In the end it would be a Brooklyn service error that ended the set as SJC earned a 25-22 win to go up 2-0 in the match.

Tight through much of the third, the Golden Eagles held a two-point advantage (19-17) in the later stages of the frame but used a 6-2 run to clinch the set (25-19) and the sweep (3-0).

SJC's attack was led by senior Claire Urizzo, who matched a season-best hitting percentage of .556 and collected a game-best 12 kills.

Freshman Kaitlin Williams and sophomore Jessica Nicholson contributed five kills apiece.

The Skyline Conference's leader in digs-per-set, junior Danielle Senecal, led all players with 19 digs, and freshman Brionna Silva dished out a game-high 17 assists.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Friday, September 6 when they head to Manhattan to take on CCNY in a non-conference contest at 7:00 pm. Follow the action with live stats here.
