Kings Park, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's volleyball team took a 3-0 loss in its Skyline Conference opener vs. the United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) in Kings Park, NY on Tuesday evening.

With the loss the Golden Eagles slip to 2-9 on the year (0-1 Skyline) as the Mariners improve to 7-3 (2-0 Skyline).

SJC fell behind 16-12 in the first set before falling victim to a 9-1 run that USMMA used to surge to a 25-13 victory.

The Golden Eagles struck back in the second and built a 13-10 advantage midway through the frame, but the hosts kept pace and later tied the score up at 20.

With a set victory within reach, SJC failed to rally and allowed USMMA to grab five of the final six points, dooming the guests in a 25-21 second-set loss.

Similar to the first two sets, USMMA used a mid-set run to pull ahead and finish off the Golden Eagles. In the third, the Mariners, up 15-14, compiled a 10-2 run to storm to a 25-16 set win to complete the 3-0 sweep.

SJC was led by senior Claire Urizzo, who was credited with a team-best seven kills and 10 digs.

Senior Jessica Monteserrato dished out 16 assists and junior Danielle Senecal collected a team-high 15 digs.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Thursday, September 28 when they host St. Joseph's College (Brkln) for a Skyline Conference match at 7:00 pm. Live video and stats will be available here.
