SJC Women’s XC Claims First, Men Second at Skyline Championships

Milton, NJ| Behind first-place finishes by individual champions Samantha Mauric and Ryan Haune, the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's and men's cross country teams finished first and second, respectively, in the Skyline Conference Championships on Saturday afternoon at Hudson Valley Sports Dome in Milton, NY.

For the women, it was their sixth-straight conference title and their ninth in the past 10 years under the direction of head coach Jim Crowley.

Following Maurice in first place (20:36.3) in the 5k event was Brittany Guttieri (2nd, 21:02.6), Erin MacDonell (3rd, 21:05.7), Katie Scharrenbroich (4th, 21:07.1) and Megan Lavery (5th, 21:27.0) to clinch the impressive 1-5 finish for the Golden Eagles.

Along with Kelly Roberts (7th, 21:45.8) St. Joseph's top-five finishers all earned All-Skyline Conference First-Team honors. For Guttieri it was her fourth First-Team selection in four years at St. Joseph's.

The women's shutout score of 15 points beat out Sarah Lawrence (78) and Sage (104), who rounded out the top-three.

Haun, a five-time Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week, posted a 5k time of 28:45.5 was 14 seconds better than any other runner in the men's event. Nick Morfesi (6th, 29:10.8) joined Haun on the All-Skyline First-Team, while Michael LoSchiavo (10th, 29:56.4) and Nick Diaz (13th, 30:32.6) appeared on the Second-Team.

SUNY Maritime's score of 42 beat out the Golden Eagles, who racked up 64 points on the afternoon. Yeshiva University claimed third.

For finishing first their respective races, Maurice and Haun earned Most Outstanding Runner honors, while MacDonell was named Rookie of the Year and Crowley was named women's Coach of the Year.
