Skyline Conference Releases 2023-24 Basketball Preseason Polls
New York, NY| The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) women's and men's basketball teams were selected to finish third and fifth, respectively, according to the Skyline Conference's 2023-24 preseason coaches polls released on the conference's website on Tuesday morning.
The women received 76 points, while Manhattanville finished with 100 points, tallying 10 first-place votes and being picked to finish first. United States Merchant Marine Academy also received one first-place vote, finishing with 91 points, suitable for a second-place finish. Mount Saint Mary and Mount Saint Vincent rounded out the top five.
Head Coach Kerry Connolly enters his fourth season with the Golden Eagles after coming off a strong season, finishing 15-10 overall and 12-6 in the conference. The team was defeated in the semi-finals of the Skyline Conference playoffs by the eventual champions, USMMA.
The men totaled 85 points, 36 points less than Farmingdale State, garring 121 total points with 11 first-place votes. Manhattanville was the only other team to receive a first-place vote, tying for third with the Merchant Marine Academy finishing eight points shy of Yeshiva, who took home second place.
AJ Uhl enters his second season as a head coach for St. Joseph's University Long Island, coming off a season where the team finished 13-12 overall and 10-6 in Skyline Conference play. SJLI looks to build off last season when the team was defeated in the first round of the Skyline Conference Championship by Yeshiva.
The men have their season opener on Wednesday, November 8, at 7:00 pm at York College. The women open their season on Saturday, November 11, when they host Geneseo at 2:00 pm.
