Pecoraro & Nover Lead List of Five All-Skyline Honorees

2012 SKYLINE ALL-CONFERENCE TEAM

New York, NY – A pair of seniors - Anthony Orsano of Old Westbury and Chris Phelan of Farmingdale State - took home Player and Pitcher of the Year honors, respectively, as chosen in a vote of the league's nine head coaches. In addition, the coaches selected Thomas Rydzewski of Farmingdale State and Alex Velardi of Mount Saint Mary as Co-Rookies of the Year. Rod Stephan of Old Westbury was honored by his peers as Coach of the Year. The Team Sportsmanship Award was earned by NYU-Poly.

Orsano, a slugging catcher from Williston Park, NY, enjoyed a standout regular season, leading the Panthers to a 12-4 league mark and 2nd place finish. The rugged backstop batted a robust .346 while leading the league in home runs (7), doubles (14) and RBI's (51). He also scored 40 runs in the regular season, while compiling a slugging pct. of .638 and on-base pct. of .423.

Phelan, a native of Patchogue, NY, was simply brilliant in leading the Rams to the Skyline regular season crown with a sparkling 15-1 record. He posted a 6-1 mark with a 2.17 ERA, with 57 K's and only 10 walks in 62.1 IP. In league play, he was even more impressive with a 4-0 mark, 3 CG, and an 0.99 ERA.

Rydzewski, a second baseman from Franklin Square, NY, has burst onto the collegiate scene, posting a .414 regular season average, including .472 in league games. He scored 24 runs while knocking in 19, with an on-base pct. of .448, including a gaudy .509 in conference play.

Velardi, a third baseman from Branford, CT, instantly became a big bat in the Knight lineup, batting .370 with 31 runs, 23 RBI, and a team-high 11 steals in 14 attempts. He also had an impressive 50 hits, 4th in the league, while earning a .434 on-base pct.

Stephan, who is in his second season at the helm of the Panthers, wins this award for the 2nd straight year. His aggressive running style has worked well at Old Westbury, as his 28-11 mark this year gives him a two-year record of 52-31.

Orsano is joined on the 2012 All-Conference First Team by four Old Westbury teammates – pitcher Frank DiMaria, first baseman Brian Walsh, outfielder Paul Valerio, and utility player Christopher DeGennaro Phelan is joined by teammates CJ Bula (P), Frank Scarlato (C), and Anthony Alvino (SS). The team also includes Mount Saint Mary's Velardi, Vinnie Carminati (OF), and Michael Morelli (DH); St. Joseph's-L.I. teammates Rich Pecoraro (1B) and Dennis Nover (2B); and Maritime OF Joey Semler.

The All-Skyline Second Team is composed P Jason Dierkes, OF Brian Hannigan, and DH Prateek Thaman of St. Joseph's –L.I.; P Dan McCrea and SS Thomas McNoble of Mount Saint Mary; P Christopher Myers and C Matthew Sollin of Maritime; Rydzewski and Terrence Bohonan of Farmingdale State; Blake Barbeito and OF John Angelino of Old Westbury; and OF Josh Sharpe and UTIL Jason Rivera of Mount Saint Vincent.
