Darryl Charles Named to ECAC Metro Basketball Team

CENTERVILLE, Mass. — The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) announced its 2014 ECAC Division III Metro Men's Basketball All-Star teams today, and a duo of City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) standouts were honored with Player and Rookie of the Year distinctions. York College senior guard Michael Woods (Brooklyn, N.Y.) earned Player of the Year honors while College of Staten Island freshman guard Frankie Schettino (Staten, N.Y.) was selected as the Rookie of the Year. The voting was completed by coaches within the ECAC Division III Metro Men's Basketball Membership.

Woods, in his only season with York College, scored 842 points (averaging 28.1 points per game), breaking the school's scoring record of 599 set during the 1985-1986 season. Nationally, he was second in scoring and 22nd in steals per game (2.5). He also broke the school single-game scoring mark twice this year with 44 and 46 points. Woods led the Cardinals to their fourth CUNYAC title and advanced into the second round of the NCAA tournament. Woods was also honored as the CUNYAC Player of the Year, CUNYAC Tournament MVP and was named to the D3Hoops.com All-Atlantic First Team as well as the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-America Third Team.

Schettino had an impressive rookie campaign for Staten Island, making an immediate impact by starting every game this season. The Dolphins posted a 28-3 record and captured the 2014 ECAC Division III Metro Men's Basketball Championship. On the year, Schettino dished out 222 assists, averaging 7.2 per game, the most in school history. He also added 9.4 points and 4.2 rebounds per contest, while shooting a 70.5% average from the free throw-line and a 38.1% average from beyond the arc. Schettino was also honored as the CUNYAC Rookie of the Year, D3Hoops.com Atlantic Region Rookie of the Year and he was named to the DIII News All-America Freshman Team.
