Lombardi & Ryan Win 3000m at Bill Ward Invitational

South Huntington, N.Y. – The Golden Eagle indoor track & field teams picked up several top five finishes at the 3rd annual Bill Ward Invitational hosted by St. John's University.

WOMEN

Leading the way for the women was junior Caitlyn Ryan (Farmingville, N.Y./Sachem East), who won the 3000m with a time of 11:09.73.

Senior Maureen Quinn (Rocky Point, N.Y./Rocky Point) turned in a school record time of 1:24.34 in the 500m.

Freshman Samantha Baculy (Farmingville, N.Y./Connetquot) took fifth in the 60 meter hurdles crossing the finish line in 11.78. Baculy is the first hurdler in SJC history to compete and now has set the school record for future Eagles to strive towards.

Junior Jessica Josema (Medford, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford) broke the school record in the 400m crossing the finish line at 1:02.11.

MEN

The men's top performer was senior Michael Lombardi (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Connetquot) finishing first overall in the 3000m with a time of 9:15.44.

Freshman James D'Onofrio (West Babylon, N.Y./West Babylon) bettered his school record in the 60m crossing the finish line at 7.26.

Senior Jonathan Afanador (Medord, NY/Patchogue-Medford) made his debut in the mile running 4:39.79, good for second place.

Junior Brian Wersan (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem North) competed in the 800m breaking the school record with a time of 2:02.16 which was also good for second place.

The Golden Eagles will not be back in action until 2013, when they take part in the NYC Gotham Cup hosted by NYU on Friday, January 11 at the New Balance Track & Field Center in New York City.
