Track & Field Sets New Marks at Shea Invitational

West Point, N.Y. - The St. Joseph's College men's and women's outdoor track & field teams kicked off their outdoor season at West Point for the Dick Shea Invitational.

Women's Highlights

Senior Ally Waka (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Sachem North) broke her previous school record in the 5K with a personal best of 20:10.56.

Junior Christine Cristobal (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hallow Hills West) took fifth overall in the 800m with a school record time of 2:23.64.

Men's Highlights

Junior Scott Saunders (Hampton Bays, N.Y./Hampton Bays) made his collegiate debut as he competed in the javelin, breaking the previous school record with a toss of 126' 11" feet.

Junior Michael Lombardi (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Connetquot) competed in the 5k taking third in his heat with a 16:27.97 personal best time.

The 1600 meter relay of senior Michael Hartman (Shirley, N.Y./William Floyd), junior Jonathan Afanador (Medford, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford), and freshmen Skylar Ellison (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) and Robert Johnson (Mastic Beach, N.Y./William Floyd) took fifth overall with a school record time of 3:39.84.

Both teams will be back in action on Saturday, April 7 to compete in the Roadrunner Invite hosted by Ramapo College.
