Track & Field Has Solid Outing at NJ Invitational as Mayen Qualifies for ECAC’s

Ewing, N.J.  The men's and women's outdoor track & field teams had several school and personal records broken at the New Jersey College Invitational and their first ECAC qualifier for the outdoor championships, freshman Mario Mayen (Center Moriches, N.Y./Center Moriches).

MEN

Sprinter Mario Mayen took fifth in the 400m in a school record time of 50.02.  This time punches his ticket to compete in the ECAC Championships next month at Springfield College.

Senior Michael Lombardi (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Connetquot) competed in the 3000m and broke the previous school record with a time of 9:11.75.

Junior Brian Wersan (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem North) took eighth in the 1500m in a school record time of 4:07.36.

WOMEN

Junior Caitlyn Ryan (Farmingville, N.Y./Sachem East) competed in the 3000m, breaking the school record with a time of 10:56.44.

Freshman Samantha Maurice (Holtsville, N.Y./Sachem East) competed in the 400 hurdles and bettered her school record to 1:13.68.

Freshman Brittany Guttieri (Oakdale, N.Y./Connetquot) took eighth in the 1500m in a school record time of 5:06.98.

The Golden Eagles will prep this upcoming week for the CTC Championships to be contested Friday-Saturday, April 19-20 at Georgian Court University.  Competition will begin Friday afternoon and conclude late Saturday afternoon.
