Men's Volleyball Picks Up a Pair of Wins on Saturday

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's volleyball team claimed a pair of non-conference victories with 3-0 sweeps over Brooklyn College and Drew University.

The Golden Eagles improve to 8-2 on the season.

SJCLI 3, Brooklyn 0

St. Joseph's took down the Bulldogs 25-11, 25-12, and 25-15 in straight sets.

Sophomore Mark Williams led the Golden Eagles with 13 kills while hitting at a .929 clip. Graduate student Paul Curaro finished with 11 kills and a match-best five service aces. Graduate student Mark Jensen added seven kills with two blocks at the net.

Sophomore setter Clint Johnson tossed 19 assists with senior Michael Lane recording 10. Graduate student libero Jason Siriban finished with a match-high 10 digs.

Darren Roach led the Bulldogs with six kills with Admir Cekic and Omar Rezika pitching in with three kills apiece. Setter Brian Fok dished 14 assists while Cekic picked up four digs.

The Golden Eagles remained unbeaten on the day with 25-14, 25-9, and 25-15 wins over the Rangers in their second match.

Curaro knocked down 15 kills and finished hitting .652 with two aces, four digs, and two blocks. Williams came away with nine kills and six digs. Johnson guided the offense with 30 assists while Siriban picked up eight digs.

Omarf Ortega-Reyes led the Rangers with six kills and finished with four digs. Ephrain Smith pitched in with five kills while setter Huriel Perez recorded 17 assists and Jacob Sledz led with nine digs.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Tuesday, February 15 when they travel to face Hunter College at 6:00 pm.
