Men's Volleyball Topped by NYU, 3-1

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's volleyball team suffered a 3-1 non-conference loss to New York University in the Danzi Center on Tuesday evening.

The Golden Eagles move to 12-3 on the season as the Violets improve to 8-7.

NYU grabbed an early match lead with a 25-21 win in the first set before the Golden Eagles held off the Violets in set two. St Joesph's led 24-17, but NYU would not go down easy claiming four unanswered points moving the score to 24-21. SJC's Clint Johnson dished to Paul Curaro for the final kill securing the 25-21 victory.

Despite trailing early in set three, back-to-back kills from SJC's Mark Williams and an NYU error evened the score at six. Both teams went on to trade points with neither side creating any distance until the visitors claimed four of the final five points for the 25-21 win.  A tightly played fourth set saw seven lead changes but after a kill from Curaro tied the game at 25, NYU came away with the final two points to capture the 27-25 win.

St. Joesph's Mark Jensen led all players with a career-best 20 kills while hitting at a .455 clip. Curaro pitched in with 15 kills along and seven digs while recording a team-high three aces. Williams rounded out the top scorers with 13 kills.

Johnson matched a career-high with 54 assists on the night averaging 13.5 assists per set. Libero Jason Siriban recorded seven digs with middle hitter Quinn Foglia knocking down six kills and coming away with six total blocks.

Gautham Dasari led the Violets with 16 kills and finished with nine digs. Tyler Flood was 9-of-14 out of the middle and had a hand in five blocks. Setter Ryan Whealen tossed 36 assists and James Haag recorded a match-best 11 digs.
