Softball Sweeps Away Drew Ranger Danger

Patchogue, N.Y. – St. Joseph's swept away the Drew Rangers Wednesday afternoon taking two straight, 2-0 and 9-3.  SJC evens its record out at 6-6 while Drew fell to 3-15.

In game one, the Golden Eagles scored all the runs they needed in the third inning to back starter Mallory McClafferty who earned the shutout win.  McClafferty (3-2) scattered seven hits and three walks while striking out five.

St. Joseph's runs came on a Kristen Arbiter RBI groundout scoring Lindsey Corriss and a McClafferty double that brought home Julianne Tierney.

In game two, Drew got on the board first with two quick runs off SJC starter Lauren Burturla (2-2) who went four innings but gave up only one earned run and picked up the win.

In St. Joseph's third, Corriss hit an RBI triple bringing home Cheyenne Raimondi.  Following her, Tierney hit a two-run homerun to tie the game at 3-3.  In the fourth, another Eagle run came courtesy of a passed ball that scored Nicole Reda.

SJC struck for three more in the fifth and two in the sixth, mostly on Drew miscues, but RBI singles by Melanie Boccio, Reda and McClafferty highlighted the offense.

Up next for the Golden Eagles is a road double-dip with Hunter before returning home for a Skyline doubleheader against Mt. St. Vincent at noon on Friday.
