Women's Lacrosse Topples Purchase, 17-4

Purchase, NY| The St. Joseph's College women's lacrosse team earned its second Skyline Conference win this week with a 17-4 victory over SUNY Purchase on Friday evening.

The Golden Eagles improve to 3-2 on the season with a 3-2 conference record. The Panthers fall to 0-4 overall, 0-4 Skyline.

Senior Tori Staker led all players with five goals while adding an assist and a game-best seven ground balls. Sophomore Melissa Newman pitched in with five points on four goals and an assist with classmate Amanda Gennardo recording three goals and two assists.

Freshman Sabrina Simonetti provided a pair of goals and four assists with a season-high 14 draw controls and four caused turnovers.

Five different Golden Eagles scored as SJC exploded out to a 7-0 lead midway through the first frame. The Panthers would record back-to-back goals moving the score to 7-2, but a 4-0 run for the visitors widened that gap to 11-2. Purchase's Madison Fetzer unassisted tally would close out the scoring for the Panthers and the Golden Eagles would head into the break leading 14-3.

Purchase was first to score in the second half, but St. Joseph's would find the back of the net three more times to move the game to its final 17-4

SJC's Jillian Hummel finished the night with three saves as Purchase's Casandra Schmoger recorded 12.

The Golden Eagles resume Skyline play on Wednesday, April 21 when they travel to Mt. St. Mary College. Game time is set for 6:00 pm.
