Women's Volleyball Picks Up a Pair of Wins on Saturday

The St. Joseph's University-New York (L.I.) women's volleyball team picked up a pair of wins in the Danzi Center on Saturday afternoon. The Golden Eagles earned a 3-0 Skyline Conference sweep before taking down Farleigh Dickenson University-Florham 3-1 for a non-conference win.

  • The Golden Eagles held the Knights to just five kills in the opening frame taking a 1-0 match lead with a 25-17 win

  • Set two saw both sides tied at 12 before a 7-1 run had SJLI leading 19-13 as they went on to claim the set 25-19

  • MSMC stayed close to the Golden Eagles in set three trailing by just two late in the frame, 20-18. Three unanswered points went in favor of the hosts creating some distance and they went on to win the set 25-20 to complete the sweep

  • Sophomore Luciana D'Ambrosio recorded 16 kills with Gremli finishing in double figures with 12

  • Libero Sarah Montefusco scooped up a season-high 24 digs

How it happened
  • Jumped out to an early 6-0 lead in set one, but the Devils chipped away and would tie the score at 12. The teams stayed within two points of each other down the stretch with FDU holding a 22-21 advantage. The final four points of the frame went to the Golden Eagles for the 25-22 win

  • Five unanswered points from the Devils put the visitors ahead 15-13 midway through the second set, but the Golden Eagles responded with a 5-1 run of their own extending their lead to six, 20-14, and would go on to take a 2-0 match lead with a 25-17 win

  • FDU squandered an eight-point lead, 20-12, SJLI chipped away and a late 7-0 streak knotted the score at 24. An epic back-and-forth battle followed before the Devils finally held off elimination with a 32-30 win

  • The Golden Eagles made quick work of the Devils in the fourth set cruising to a 25-10 win to claim the match 3-1
