Men’s Basketball Selected 5th in South Division in Skyline Preseason Poll

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's basketball team finished fifth in the South Division in the Skyline Conference Coaches' Preseason Poll, which was released on the conference website on Tuesday morning.

Last season the Golden Eagles posted a 10-15 overall record and a 9-11 conference mark narrowly missing out on a playoff berth. Third-year head coach Kevin Spann welcomes back seven returners from last season including Skyline All-Conference First-Team selection Andy Laurent and three-point specialist Fernando Vazquez. Both players are entering their senior years.

With the conference's addition of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) this academic year, the Skyline men's basketball standings moved to a divisional format. The North Division is comprised of SUNY Maritime, Mount St. Mary College, SUNY Purchase, Sage, Sarah Lawrence and USMMA, and the South Division includes Farmingdale State, the College of Mount St. Vincent, SUNY Old Westbury, St. Joseph's College (Brkln), St. Joseph's College (L.I.) and Yeshiva University.

The results of the poll have the Golden Eagles finishing in fifth place after earning 29 points, 31 points fewer than Farmingdale who finished first in the South Division with 60 points and six first-place votes. Defending conference champion Old Westbury collected 59 points and six first-place votes and finished second.

Sage (58 points, 6 first-place votes) and USMMA (48 points, 3 first-place votes) finished first and second, respectively, in the North Division.
