Men’s Basketball Drops Non-Conf. Tilt to Brockport on Tuesday

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's basketball team dropped a 67-53 decision to SUNY Brockport in a non-conference contest played inside the Danzi Center on Tuesday evening.

With the defeat the Golden Eagles slide to 0-4 on the year as Brockport improves to 3-0.

SJC took an early 6-3 advantage 2:11 into the contest but Brockport went up 7-6 one and half minutes later and never relinquished the lead. St. Joseph's kept the scoreline close in the first half and came to within four points (25-21) after Isaiah Moore sunk a pair of free throws with 3:39 to play in the period, but Brockport's 12-4 run to end the half ensured the the guests went into the break up 12 (37-25).

Brockport carried its momentum into the second half and warded off any advances by SJC eventually building a 24-point lead with 6:25 to play. In the end it was a 14-point defeat for the Golden Eagles who dropped the contest 67-53.

Senior Fernando Vazquez and Brockport's Marcus Blythers both scored a game-best 14 points. Vazquez collected 10 of his 14 points at the charity stripe where the San Juan, Puerto Rico native shot 10-12.

Freshman Joe Santoro scored a season-high 12 points, while senior Andy Laurent and junior Isaiah Moore contributed 10 points each.

SJC struggled to generate offense and shot 34.0% from the floor and 13.3% from three. Brockport would also hold advantages in rebounds (42-31) and second-chance points (11-3).

The Golden Eagles return to action on Thursday, December 1 when they host defending Skyline Conference champion SUNY Old Westbury inside the Danzi Center at 6:00 PM. Live stats for the match will be available here.
