Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's basketball team suffered an 86-56 defeat at the hands of Misericordia University in a non-conference exchange inside the Danzi Center on Thursday evening.

With the defeat the Golden Eagles slide to 1-6 (1-1 Skyline) on the season as the Cougars improve to 7-1.

SJC took an early 4-2 lead 1:44 into the game but Misericordia regained the lead just over a minute later and maintained it for the remainder of the game. The Cougars, scoring in bunches in the first half, would go up 36-9 with 5:35 to play in the half before taking a 45-20 lead into the break.

Down 54-25 3:06 in the second half the Golden Eagles used a 13-0 run—capped off by an Andy Laurent three-ball—to cut the SJC deficit to 16 points with 14:58 to play. Laurent would soon after make it a 14-point game (56-42) at 12:31, but a 17-3 run by the Cougars expanded the guests' lead to 29 points (73-45) at 7:40 before cruising to the 86-56 victory.

Laurent's 12 points led the Golden Eagles while freshman Joe Santoro's 11 were second best. Juniors Isaiah Moore and Dan Brzozka, and senior Fernando Vazquez, tallied seven points apiece.

Moore and Laurent would lead SJC with eight rebounds and four steals, respectively.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Saturday, December 10 when they host Saint Joseph's College of Maine in a non-conference showdown inside the Danzi Center at 3:00 PM. Live stats will be available here.
