Track and Field Opens Season at the Fastrack Season Opener

Staten Island, NY| The St. Joseph's College indoor track and field team opened its season at the Fast-Track Metro Season Opener at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Staten Island on Friday afternoon.

Junior Meagan Haviland led the women's side with a 13th place finish out of 25 in the 3000m with a time of 11:20.40 and finished 15th of 33 in the 800m with a time of 2:34.16.

Also competing in the 3000m was Caleigh Capek coming in at 11:57.86. Marlee Lopez (2:38.95), Capek (2:47.76) Jennifer O'Connor (2:59.33) and Victoria Quinones (3:12.71) raced in the 800m.

Sophomore Savannah McMaster competed in the 200m and the 400m and turned in times of 28.94 and 1:06.34, respectively.

Rounding out the women's competition were Karli Murphy (6:18.02), O'Connor (6:27.75), Nadine Keefer (6:37.58) and Stephanie Surrusco (7:01.80) all competing in the mile.

For the men, freshman Matt Lopez crossed the finish line with a 10th place finish and a time of 4:37 in the mile along with an 18th place with a time of 2:05.06 in the 800m. Finishing behind him were James Malone (2:33.99) and Vincent Calvosa (2:36.41).

Junior Jeremy Anderson finished 12th in the 1000m with a time of 2:43.36 with Dennis O'Rourke (16:47.15) and Patrick Wuss (17:28.71) competing in the 5000m.

Senior Jayvid Parra raced in the 60m and 400m and turned in times of 8.16 and 59.49, respectively. Freshman Chris Newham competed in the 500m, finished at 1:19.97 and in the 200m, and finished at 27.08.

The Golden Eagles return to the track on Saturday, January 11 when they travel to the TCNJ Lion Indoor Invitational at the NYC Armory.
