Track and Field Races at NYC Gotham Cup

Staten Island, NY| The St. Joseph's College indoor track and field team competed at the New York City Gotham Cup at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island over the weekend.

Junior Meagan Haviland placed 11th out of 25 in the women's 1000-meter with a time of 3:18.25 qualifying her for the ECAC Championships. Haviland, joined by teammates Karli Murphy, Savannah McMaster and Marlee Lopez in the distance medley relay and finished seventh at 14:01.84.

Sprinters McMaster and Caroline ZacZek competed in the 60-meter dash and finished with times of 8.71 and 8.83, respectively. The duo also raced in the 200-meter and came in at 29.22 and 30.42.

For the men, freshman Matt Lopez turned in his personal best in the 1000-meter race and qualified for the ECAC Championships with a time of 2:39.74. Junior Jeremy Anderson came in just behind him at 2:43.82.

The distance medley relay team of Anderson, Chris Newham, Lopez, and Patrick Wuss turned in a sixth-place finish with a time of 11:20.39.

The Golden Eagles will compete in the NYC DIII Invitational at the NYC Armory on Friday, January 31.
