Women's Lacrosse Captures Non-Conference Win at Ramapo

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's lacrosse team earned their first win by claiming a 16-9 non-conference contest with Ramapo College on Wednesday evening.

The Golden Eagles improve to 1-3 on the season as the Roadrunners slide to 1-1.

Junior Melissa Newman led all players with seven goals on the night while adding a ground ball and a caused turnover. Junior Jaime Trowbridge finished with five points on three goals and two assists with a team-best seven draw controls and four caused turnovers. Sophomore Emily O'Mara rounded out the top scorers with three goals and three assists.

Freshman Deirdre Carney picked up a team-best four ground balls while causing three turnovers.

Ramapo's Kelly Griffin and Colleen Mason finished with three goals apiece. Esme Espinosa added two goals with a game-high seven ground balls.

The Golden Eagles trailed 4-2 in the second quarter before Newman sparked a 7-0 run to put SJC ahead 9-4. Ramapo scored with less than two minutes left in the quarter to send the teams into the break at 9-5.

St. Joseph's outscored the Roadrunners 9-4 over the second half to secure the 16-9 victory.

Freshman goalie Chloe Anthony picked up her first win in the cage making four saves in her half before giving way to senior Jillian Hummel who finished with seven saves. Ramapo's Alyssa Curto recorded six saves.

The Golden Eagles open up Skyline play on Thursday, April 1 when they travel to SUNY Maritime. Game time is set for 6:00 pm.
