Women's Tennis Topples Farmingdale in Season Opener

Farmingdale, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's tennis team secured a 6-3 season-opening victory over Farmingdale State in a Skyline Conference contest on Saturday afternoon.

The win ensures the Golden Eagles begin the year with a 1-0 record as the Rams start at 0-1.

SJC picked up two out of three possible points in the doubles matches, registering wins at third doubles via Haley Celona and Trinity Belen (8-5) and at second doubles thanks to Mackenzie Martocci and Erin Hickey's 8-7 tiebreaking victory.

Despite dropping first and secons singles matches, the Golden Eagles secured wins at third through sixth singles.

Martocci was a 6-1, 6-3 winnner at third singles and Celona won 6-4, 6-1 at fourth singles. Hickey posted a 6-3, 6-2 win at fifth singles and Behlen surged to a 7-5, 3-6 victory in the sixth spot.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Tuesday, April 13 when they visit Manhattanville College for a Skyline Conference match-up. On-site spectators are strictly prohibited.
